Kurukh is a Dravidian language spoken by almost 2,000,000 Oraon and Kisan clans of Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, and West Bengal, just as by 65,000 in northern Bangladesh, 28,600 a lingo called Dhangar in Nepal and around 5,000 in Bhutan. Some Kurukh speakers are in South India. It is most firmly identified with Brahui and Malto (Paharia). The language is set apart as being in a "powerless" state in UNESCO
